What Is Migraine Botox?
Migraine Botox is the injection of botulinum toxin into specific points of the head and neck for the treatment of chronic migraine.
This method is not performed for aesthetic purposes; it is used as a medical treatment.
Who Is It Suitable For?
It is especially effective in patients with chronic migraine:
- Headache on more than 15 days per month
- Migraine features on at least 8 of those days
- Attacks continuing for longer than 3 months
It is generally not the first option for episodic migraine (fewer headache days per month).
How Does It Work?
- Suppresses nerve endings involved in pain transmission in the head and neck
- Reduces the release of pain-triggering chemicals
- Decreases the frequency and severity of attacks
It does not eliminate migraine completely; the goal is to reduce the number and intensity of attacks.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
- Duration: 15-20 minutes
- Average of 31-39 injection points
- Applied to the forehead, temples, nape, back of the head, and upper shoulder area
- You can return to daily life immediately after the procedure
Duration of Effect
- Initial effect: 1-2 weeks
- Maximum effect: 4 weeks
- Duration: Approximately 3 months
- Usually repeated every 3 months
The best results are usually seen after 2-3 sessions.
